About
The Underground Atlas is a zoomable world map of underground music projects: independent and underground artists and bands, typically with under 30,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.
Why it exists
Underground scenes are scattered across cities, countries and small platforms, and recommendation algorithms mostly push what is already big. The Atlas does the opposite: it puts small projects on one map, so a listener in São Paulo can stumble on a noise project in Tokyo, and a musician in Turin can see who is playing nearby. The 30,000-listener guideline keeps the space small, independent and about the music.
What you will find
- A map with projects grouped by proximity, to explore with zoom and genre filters.
- A search by name or city.
- For each project: artist name, genres, city and links to Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and Spotify, YouTube or Bandcamp.
How to get listed
Anyone with a project that meets the requirements can submit it. Every submission is reviewed before it is published. The "verified" badge means the project's identity has been checked.
Who runs it
The Atlas is curated by someone who is part of the scene first-hand, not by a company or an algorithm. Entries that belong to the curator's own projects are listed like any other and carry a small "Curator HQ" label on their card, so it is always clear which ones come from the operator.
